The land in Tuas on which Raffles Country Club (RCC) is occupying has been officially gazetted for acquisition on Wednesday by the government for the sole purpose of building the necessary facilities to house the upcoming Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) and the future Cross Island Line (CSL) western depot. The Land Transport Authority had issued a statement stating that the site on which Raffles Country Club is located is the most suitable piece of real estate for the HSR tracks to be run and in addition also, for placement of tunnel portal into the underground tunnels that will lead the HSR to the Jurong East terminus.
The location, size and the orientation of the real estate housing the Rafflles Country Club indeed qualifies it as an optimum site for the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) as there is no other good option of another actual site without having to make land acquisition. In addition to housing the HSR crossover tracks, the Raffles Country Club will also house a siding facility for a train near the border for both safety and operational reasons as and when necessary.
The Raffles Country Club site will also be used to build the CSL western depot which will contain stabling and maintenance facilities together also with infrastructures which will support and service transport related needs including train testing facilities.
The HSR when completed will make the train journey to Kuala Lumpur much faster significantly by reducing the travelling time to just ninety minutes and is expected to be fully operational by 31 December 2026.
The Raffles Country Club is one of the oldest golf clubs in Singapore and was opened in 1988 with its 30 years lease supposedly to expire on 31 October 2028. As a result of the acquisition, the property has be to relinquish to the Singapore Land Authority by 31 July 2018.
